How to submit a website
Hopefully, by the time you've reached this page, you have read the rest of this site of search engine tips and you now have a better understanding of how the search engines work (if not, go back and start from the beginning).
Now, before in on a few secrets regarding search engine submissions, there is a lot more "how to's" when it comes to the art of search engine ranking and promotions. So, just because you are now more knowledgeable about this topic, doesn't make you a "guru" (from from it!).
Search engines can be a very powerful promotion tool if used correctly (if not, they are a complete waste of time!). Just make sure you read more about this subject before you decide to invest all of your valuable time into it (granted, this can be said about any subject or marketing endeavor).
Double Check Before You Submit
Before submitting your web pages, there are a few precautionary steps you must take. First, make sure your pages look perfect... all the links and graphics are in place. Check you META description and keyword tags... your title tags, etc. Once you submit, that's it (for now anyway). Of course you can resubmit your pages (which is actually recommended if timed properly), but a little time must first pass by and I'd hate for you to waste all your hard efforts and time on a "bad" submission.
Submission Software Programs
Here's a huge fallacy and misconception on the Web (it's actually a downright lie!)... the idea that you need to submit your site to "over 400+ search engines and directories". This is complete bullsh*t!
Over 90% of your traffic will come from the top 20 search engines and directories and most of that traffic will be from the top 6-8! Now, there are a lot of these software programs or submission services that will cost you hundreds of dollars to promote your site (between $150 to $500) to these lame and useless search engines.
Don't buy into it! At the end of this page I'll show you how to do it for free! (Also, most search engines, and especially directories - like Yahoo!, LookSmart, etc. - will NOT accept "automated software program" submissions. So, you might as well save yourself the money and do it manually!)
But, if you ever do decide to buy a submission software program (if used properly, they can save you time which is very important in the long run), use Web Position Gold. It's a nice program because it's got lots of cool features.
* It'll create HTML "doorway" pages based on keywords and details you enter about your business (not as accurate as if you had done it yourself, but it's a start).
* It can create, custom-tailored advice on how to optimize each of your new or existing Web pages (the advice is a bit too general).
* It can submit your pages to the top 10 search engines.
* It will analyze your traffic and track your visitors and where they came from automatically, without the need to download server log files or buy extra software. (This is a very important feature... but again, I can show you how to get a MUCH better site analyzer for FREE!)
* It also comes with a "free report" that further explains, in detail, how the search engines work, including the specifics of the top 10. (This is crucial, but the biggest problem is that their information is outdated! Search engine information HAS to be fresh and updated monthly or it's a complete waste of time!)
